Why we built it

The story behind LedgerIt.

At BeFinLit India, we were drowning in paper. Bank statements were getting longer, and the manual entry was consuming hours of our team's time every single week. We searched for a software solution, but everything we found was cloud-based.

In finance, privacy is non-negotiable. Uploading sensitive client financial data to a third-party server simply to categorize expenses felt wrong. We needed a tool that worked at the speed of thought, but entirely on our own machines.

So, we built one. Initially, BFT LedgerIt was just an internal script. It took a convoluted PDF and transformed it into a clean, categorized Excel summary in seconds. The difference it made to our workflow was night and day.

When we mentioned our internal tool in an accounting community group, the response was overwhelming. Dozens of accountants and small business owners were facing the exact same problem: they wanted automation, but they didn't want to compromise on privacy.

That's when we decided to polish it, package it, and release it for everyone. BFT LedgerIt isn't just a software; it's our answer to a problem we lived with for years. Built for clarity, engineered for privacy, and made for you.

The questions we get asked most about running LedgerIt on your own machine.

No. Your statements are parsed on your own machine and never leave it. LedgerIt has no file upload of any kind, so we never see your transactions, your balances, or who you bank with.

You verify an email address once, the first time you open the app. We send a one-time code, the app stores a licence on your machine, and that is the end of it.

25+ as of v0.9.2. Several are supported in more than one statement layout. Scanned or photographed statements need OCR, which this release does not do. If a statement will not parse, email it to us at feedback.bft@gmail.com and we will fix it in the next release. You may redact account numbers, balances or transactions you do not want to share before you send it.

No. LedgerIt is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen shows that warning for the installer. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Yes, just install and activate your license before going back to the dinosaur age.

Yes. LedgerIt checks for new versions and installs them for you, so a fix we ship on Monday reaches you without a reinstall. That check is the only thing it does online once you are set up, and your statements are never part of it.

Not yet. LedgerIt is Windows 10 and above for now. Mac and Linux builds may follow later.

The app is complete and safe to use, but it is still being road-tested across the full range of bank statement formats. If a statement will not parse, email it to us at befinlitindia@gmail.com and we will fix it in the next release. You may redact account numbers, balances or transactions you do not want to share before you send it.

Yes. The current version is free to download and use. If we add paid features later, we will say so clearly before anything changes.

Your data lives in a local database on your PC. Uninstalling the app does not delete that database, but export your Excel reports first to be safe.
